Traditional and modern yurt design comparison

What's a Yurt?

A CENTURIES-OLD DESIGN,

REIMAGINED FOR MODERN LIVING

Yurts have sheltered nomadic families for thousands of years. Today, their intelligent design, natural beauty, and versability continue to inspire modern homes, retreats, and unique spaces around the world.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE YURT

Yurts originated over 2,500 years ago on the steppes of Central Asia, where nomadic peoples needed a home that was strong, portable, and comfortable in extreme conditions. Over time, yurts spread across Asia and eventually around the world.

HOW DOES A YURT WORK?

The same structural principles that made yurts strong centuries ago continue to make them strong today. Modern materials and craftsmanship simply build upon that foundation.

1

DOME

Provides natural light and ventilation

2

CENTRE RING

Supports the rafters and keeps the structure in tension.

3

RAFTERS

Radiate out from the centre ring, distributing load evenly.

4

LATTICE WALL

Flexible yet strong; creates the iconic round shape.

5

TENSION CABLE

Wraps around the wall to prevent spreading and add stability.

6

PLATFORM

A level base ensures strength, comfort and proper installation.

TIMELESS DESIGN.

MODERN LIVING.

While materials and craftmanship have evolved, the heart of the yurt remains unchanged:
