What kind of foundation do I need?
Yurts 12ft to 20ft in diameter can be placed directly on cement blocks. It is recommended that the foundation for yurts 24ft, 28ft and 32ft in diameter should be made of cement pier blocks, supporting 4” x 4” timber and 2”x 10”stringers, as per the engineer approved diagram provided by YurtZ by Design. A deck can be built off this foundation. If preferred, the yurt can be placed on top of a deck.
is the yurt platform included?

Do I need any prior building experience?
No - many customers install their yurts themselves. Basic comfort with tools and following instructions is helpful, but you don't need construction experience.
What part of the setup require the most help?
Setting up the centre ring, raising the rafters and installing the roof cover are the stages where extra hands make the biggest difference.
Can the yurt be taken down and moved later?
Yes - yurts can be disassembled and relocacted if needed, making them a flexible option for changing sites.
How is the yurt secured to the platform?
The yurt is secured from the bottom of the lath wall down to the skirting along the sides of the platform. Each door frame is also anchored directly to the platform, helping keep the structure secure, stable, and properly in place.
Do I need scaffolding to set up the yurt?
Yes - you'll need a safe way to support and access the centre ring during setup.
The centre ring needs to be held up at height on a stable surface (often using scaffolding) so the rafters can be attached evenly around it. This allows the structure to come together properly as each rafter is set into place.
If you're unsure what setup will work best for your yurt size, we're always happy to guide you.
What tools are needed for installation?
Most installation only require basic tools such as hand tools, a drill, ladders.
You will also need a safe way to reach the centre ring - yurts require scaffolding or a stable raised platform during set up to support the ring and install the rafters and roof cover properly.
For certain upgrades like snow and wind kits or glass windows, additional tools such as a jig saw, circular saw, or chop saw may be needed.
We provide guidance to help you prepare so you have everything you need before getting started.
